'the Longest Yard' Review
The longest yard takes the typical underdog sports movie and places it in a prison setting, where disgraced football star Paul Crewe is brought to assemble a team of inmates to play the guards. The longest yard doesn’t exactly offer a realistic portrayal of prison life, but it is entertaining.
The film is a remake of the 1974 movie starring Burt Reynolds. This one by-passes much of the sentiment of the original but makes up for it in greater laughs.
One of the film’s main strengths is host of likeable, led by Adam Sandler in the lead role and Chris Rock. The film’s host of colorful characters may be shallow and one dimensional; however they are fun to watch.
Highlights include a late guest appearance by Rob Schneider, a secret video of an inmate’s affair and a prison cheer squad made of the most feminine inmates; ‘they may not be pretty now but in 8 months they’ll look like Beyonce’.
The film is quite predictable and forgettable, but it is worth seeing.
6.5/10
